Description
The museum is located at a 10-minute walk from the Subway Chiyoda Line Nezu Station or a 15-minute walk from the JR Nippori Station. The museum displays 50 daimyo clocks out of about 200 that were collected by a late potter Guro Kamiguchi during his lifetime. Daimyo clocks are valuable clocks that are time-invested, hand-made by Edo-period craftsmen who were sponsored by the Edo shogunate. Techniques and skills employed, the mechanism of the clocks, and the quality of materials poured into making a daimyo clock were the best of what they had at the time, and it can be said that a daimyo clock is the art and craftwork that Japan should be proud of. One of the clock's features is that the old Japanese temporal hour system is used. Mr. Kamiguchi's son opened this museum on the site where the suburban residence of the Katsuyama domain used to be to preserve this precious cultural heritage. It is a smaller museum, yet you can feel a Japanese atmosphere.
