Ohta’s Isan Gets a Refresh: Introducing the New Ohta’s Isan S and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S with Updated Packaging and Improved Benefits

Date published: 1 October 2025

Ohta’s Isan, a long-standing favorite digestive medicine in Japan, has now been renewed as Ohta’s Isan S. The refreshed packaging has a brighter look, and both the can and sachet types offer more volume than before. Its antacid and digestive effects have also been strengthened, making it even more effective. At the same time, it still preserves the qualities people have trusted for generations, such as seven natural herbal ingredients and a unique powdered formula.

Here, we’ll take a closer look at the updates, the enhanced benefits, and even the brand’s official PR ambassador, Ohtainyan.

Ohta’s Isan, Japan’s staple gastrointestinal medicine, becomes Ohta’s Isan S!

Ohta’s Isan, Japan’s staple gastrointestinal medicine, becomes Ohta’s Isan S!

Ohta’s Isan and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet>, staple gastrointestinal medicines in Japanese households, are rebranding as Ohta’s Isan S and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S. The packaging has been redesigned, and the ingredients have been improved.

Let’s start with the packaging. The new design features an “S” added to “Ohta’s Isan.” The label and text colors are brighter, giving it a more refined and friendly appearance. When displayed on drugstore shelves, the new packaging is easily distinguishable, making it more recognizable to travelers when they first see it.

The increased number of doses for both the cans and sachets is another key feature of the renewed products. Ohta’s Isan S is now available in cans containing 80 g or 150 g, while the convenient travel-size Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S comes in doses of 18, 34, or 50. You can choose the type that best suits your lifestyle: cans are ideal for household storage, while sachets are perfect for carrying when going out or traveling.

Please note that some stores may still have the previous medicines in stock immediately after October 2025, so you may find both versions on the same shelves.

Along with the design, the ingredients used in Ohta’s IsanS and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S have also improved. Compared to the previous versions, both products now offer enhanced acid-neutralizing capacity to neutralize excess acid reflux and improved digestive properties.

First, let’s focus on the enhanced acid-neutralizing capacity of the medicines. Excess acid reflux from eating too many sweets, greasy foods, or drinking too much alcohol can lead to heartburn and stomach discomfort.

With Ohta’s Isan S and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S, the improved formulation of the antacids provides approximately 32.5%* greater acid-neutralizing capacity compared to the previous versions. This helps alleviate stomach discomfort and provides greater relief in various everyday situations.

The improved digestive properties of the medicines are also worth noting. Difficulty digesting food due to age or an unbalanced diet can cause indigestion and loss of appetite. The increased number of digestive enzymes in the new formula enhances digestion by approximately 12.5%(*) compared to the previous product. This makes it an even more recommended gastrointestinal medicine for those times when you want to thoroughly enjoy your meals.

Ohta’s Isan S and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S can be taken to alleviate heartburn or indigestion, or when you want to make eating meals more comfortable.

The improved Ohta’s Isan S and Ohta’s Isan <Sachet> S maintain their qualities that have made the brand the preferred choice to many people over the years.

First, they feature a balanced blend of seven kinds of stomachic herbs (cinnamon bark, fennel, nutmeg, clove, citrus unshiu peel, gentian, and powdered Picrasma wood) that help regulate weakened gastrointestinal function, soothe stomach discomfort, and stimulate appetite. This formula, which makes use of nature’s benefits, has been cultivated for over 145 years and remains cherished today.

Next, the unique powder manufacturing method preserves the herbs’ natural aroma and flavor, enhanced with l-menthol to provide a refreshing sensation upon ingestion, making it easy to drink. The refreshing sensation unique to Ohta’s Isan remains unchanged even after rebranding.

Additionally, the product is still available in both cans and sachets. Cans are ideal for household storage, while sachets are convenient to carry in a bag when going out, allowing you to select the option best suited to your lifestyle.
