While vacationing in Japan, you’ll never want your smartphone battery to run out. Without it, it’s tough to get around without a map app or travel website, and that handy translation app too – plus you’re missing out on snapping Instaworthy photos and videos of your trip! In short, while on holiday, your smart device is essential. You really don’t want to worry about getting low on charge. But how to charge up when power outlets can be hard to come by in Japan?
And that’s why a new sharing service called ChargeSPOT was created: to offer an easy, simple way to borrow a portable battery charger from any ChargeSPOT outlet, use it for however long is needed and return it to any ChargeSPOT outlet when finished. No hassle; no needing to be tethered to an outlet. With thousands of ChargeSPOT outlets in stores and facilities throughout Japan, visitors can now travel across the country and enjoy their stay, confident that virtually wherever they go and how much they use their smartphone for all those travel essentials, they aren’t far from a fully charged battery.
What kind of service is ChargeSPOT?
ChargeSPOT outlets are plentiful throughout Japan, such as stations, airports, convenience stores, karaoke parlors, and pharmacies, allowing people to rent and return a ChargeSPOT easily. To use the services, simply download a free app and search for rental spots. Hundreds are sure to pop up wherever you are, in places you are likely to go during your day anyway.
ChargeSPOT costs 150 yen (excluding tax) for the first hour. After that, from the start of rental up to 7 days (168 hours), the fee will be 150 yen (excluding tax) per day. With such reasonable prices, there is no reason not to give it a try. And if you’re a WeChat user, you can also enjoy free use of the mini program.
Using the service
Using a ChargeSPOT is very easy!
1.Install the free ChargeSPOT app. Perform SMS authentication, register yourself as a new user, and enter your payment method.
2.Find nearby rental spots. On your smartphone, tap a rental spot and its location will be displayed. You can also see whether rental is possible. The route and distance to the spot is displayed.
3.Scan the QR code with your smartphone app and press “Rent Now” to release the battery from the stand lock.
4.Charge your smartphone or tablet while on the go. Put the ChargeSPOT battery in your pocket or bag and charge while on the move. There is no need to wait near a power outlet until charging is complete.
5.Return the mobile battery to an empty slot on the ChargeSPOT stand to return the device and complete the service.
Amazing feature 1: Borrow in Hokkaido and return in Okinawa
ChargeSPOT outlets are installed in stations, airports, post offices, convenience stores, restaurants, electronics stores and many more places that you might go to or pass by during your time in Japan. As ChargeSPOT portable battery chargers can be rented and returned anywhere, even at different locations, it is so easy to use the system. You can borrow a ChargeSPOT in Hokkaido and return it in Okinawa. You can even borrow a ChargeSPOT in Japan and return it in Hong Kong!
And, because you don’t have to wait somewhere while charging your devices, you have more time to enjoy every moment of being in Japan! ChargeSPOT battery chargers can charge four kinds of smartphones plus digital cameras and iPads. It also has cables fitting three major connectors (iOS / MicroUSB / USB Type-C), so you can also charge portable Wi-Fi devices and other electronic gear.
Amazing feature 2: Charging while shopping
As ChargeSPOTs can be found at some of Japan’s biggest retail stores – many of which are popular with tourists – it’s easy to find a ChargeSPOT to use while you’re out shopping or simply exploring. Within Tokyo, for example, ChargeSPOT can be found in Shinjuku at Qual Pharmacy, BicCamera Shinjuku East Store, Yamada Denki LABI Shinjuku East Store, Isetan Shinjuku and Yodobashi Camera Shinjuku West Store. There are also a huge number of outlets in Shibuya, Ginza, Asakusa and Tokyo Station. You will never be stuck with no battery and nowhere to find a portable battery charger!
Enhance your trip in Japan!
Today, smartphones are so important in helping us make the most of our time on holiday. From helping us find the perfect places to eat and best places to shop, to showing us the way in busy cities and capturing our memories with perfect photos, smartphones and tablets are everyone’s vacation essential.
While on a trip, no one wants to be always checking whether they have enough juice in their smart device to last the day. And, even more important, no one wants to run out of battery! That’s why ChargeSPOT is so great; it allows users to easily pick up and return portable batteries that can charge their devices on the move simply and easily.
With their stylish design, you’ll be happy to carry ChargeSPOT or slip it into your pocket or bag. And, thanks to the thousands of ChargeSPOT outlets across Japan, from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south, using ChargeSPOT couldn’t be easier. It’s likely you will pass by many ChargeSPOT outlets during your day, making it easy to pick up and return them anywhere, even at different locations.
