Three key points I emphasized when selecting hotels

Shinjuku, also known as "the city that never sleeps," is Japan's premier entertainment district that attracts many travelers from both domestic and international destinations.

The area boasts numerous attractive spots including the dazzling neon-lit "Kabukicho," the deep and charming "Golden Gai," and the new entertainment mecca "Tokyu Kabukicho Tower." To fully enjoy such exciting nights, securing a safe and reliable accommodation base is essential.

For this article, I selected hotels based on the following three important criteria.

1. Close proximity to Kabukicho and Golden Gai with excellent access to major stations
  • It's great to have a hotel in an easily accessible location where you can walk back smoothly even after a late night out! I considered not only easy access to major stations but also convenient routes to tourist attractions and dining spots.
2. Safe and secure environment with good public safety
  • Since this is Japan's premier entertainment district, safety and location are important concerns. I selected hotels located along busy, well-established streets and buildings with robust security measures.
3. Multilingual support and comprehensive services
  • Whether hotels have 24-hour front desk service and multilingual staff for handling emergencies is also a crucial factor. I carefully selected hotels with excellent tourist information services, ticket arrangements, and hospitality services.

Hotel Gracery Shinjuku is a landmark hotel marked by the iconic "Godzilla Head," located in the heart of Kabukicho. The excellent location is a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station East Exit and just a few minutes' walk to Kabukicho and Golden Gai. The surrounding area is lively and Godzilla is highly visible, making it hard to get lost on nighttime walks.

The hotel offers a wide variety of room types, including exclusive concept rooms that Godzilla fans must see and rooms where you can enjoy spectacular Godzilla views. The strict security system requires card keys to operate guest elevators, ensuring women can stay with peace of mind.

The front desk operates 24 hours and supports four languages: Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean. The concierge service that guides guests to recommended tourist spots is also noteworthy.

The "Shinjuku Toho Building" that houses the hotel contains numerous commercial facilities including movie theaters, restaurants, and convenience stores, allowing guests to fully enjoy sightseeing and dining.

Although the hotel is in a lively area, soundproofing is perfect with earplugs provided in guest rooms. The APA Hotel original "Cloud fit" mattresses offer excellent comfort and are highly praised in reviews for ensuring a good night's sleep.

My personal recommendation is the gender-separated panoramic large public bath on the hotel's top floor! Incidentally, people with tattoos can also use the bath if they can be covered with APA Hotel stickers.

Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is a reasonably priced hotel with Kabukicho and Golden Gai within walking distance. Located a 3-minute walk from Shinjuku Station South Exit and 3 minutes from the bus terminal "Busta Shinjuku," it's convenient for surrounding sightseeing. Compared to the East Exit side where Kabukicho is located, the South Exit has a calmer atmosphere, but still with foot traffic at night, giving most people a greater sense of security.

With many foreign tourists using the hotel, front staff can handle English in addition to Japanese. What caught my attention was the room service by transport robot "W3" that started in April 2025. Since the robot carries luggage to designated floors, swift service is available even during late-night hours when staff is limited.

The hotel surroundings have abundant restaurants and convenience stores, so you won't have trouble with meals or sudden shopping needs. It’s located about a 3-minutes walk from Shinjuku Station South Exit, 10 minutes' walk to Kabukicho, and 13 minutes' walk to Golden Gai with good access.

The hotel was built slightly off the main street, so the surrounding environment is quiet. Guest rooms feature an open design with large windows extending from floor level.
