Description
When it opened in 1872, Shimbashi Station was the first railway terminal in Japan. Old Shimbashi Station is a faithful reproduction of the original building in the same location. The Railway History Exhibition Hall exhibits items associated with Shiodome, the birthplace of railways in Japan. You can also view special railway-themed exhibitions for free. Also, you can see excavated metal items such as ticket punches and other tools used to operate railways, as well as earthenware teapots used in trains. Part of the first floor is glass-walled, allowing you to observe the original building's stone foundation. The spot with the stone foundation and ”Mile 0” sign is a designated National Historic Site, ”Old Shimbashi Station.” A five-minute walk from the Ginza Exit of JR Shimbashi Station.
