Description
The Moyai statue has a unique appearance. It is located near the South Ticket Gate of the Shibuya Station. Along with the statue of Hachiko, the Moyai statue is also well-known as a meeting place in the Shibuya area. Going out of the South Ticket Gate to the West Exit, if you walk towards the right along the building, you will find the statue. It becomes crowded at night on weekdays and in the evenings on weekends. This statue was donated by Nii-jima-mura (the Village of Nii-jima) located on one of the Izu Islands, the Nii-jima Island. Nii-jima-mura belongs to Tokyo. On the Nii-jima Island, many statues of Moyai, which conveys people's gentle innermost feelings originating from the spirit of cooperation, are built there. The Nii-jima Island and the Ward of Shibuya have a friendly relationship, so this statue was donated to Shibuya to show the power of unity, cooperation, and kindness in addition to promoting the island. Close to the statue of Moyai is a plaque titled ”The Statue of Moyai from the Nii-jima Island.” One of the features of this statue is that it has different faces on the front and back.
