Description
This museum in Shoto, Shibuya-ward features a facade designed by Seiichi Shirai, an architect who absorbed German and Russian culture by studying in Europe. His unique designs have earned him many fans. This building is notable for its exterior of granite (called koun, or red-cloud stone by Mr. Shirai) and fountain in the basement. Special exhibitions of all genres and eras are held here, as are adult art competitions, and shows featuring works by local elementary and junior high school students. The museum also serves as an artistic saloon for residents of Shibuya Ward; visitors can make use of Salon Muse, a multipurpose hall, to chat or just relax. Illustrated catalogs of exhibitions, along with stationery goods bearing the museum's motif, are available at the reception desk on the first floor. A 15-minute walk from Shibuya Station brings you to this art museum.
