Description

Tateishi Nakamise Shopping Street began as a black market after the war. It still retains a retro atmosphere that reminds you of an old Japanese movie set. The street is full of shitamachi atmosphere, and in fact, the movie ”The Mamiya Brothers” directed by Yoshimitsu Morita was filmed here. The 120-meter-long street is lined with small establishments such as a rice-cracker shop, where the crackers are carefully made one by one; a handmade, thin-skin dumpling shop; a takeout sushi shop; and clothing stores targeting middle-aged to elderly customers. There are also many izakaya where you can enjoy sake and other alcoholic drinks while sampling various dishes, which differ by shop, including sashimi, oden and motsuyaki. During the annual handmade kite contest held over New Year's, colorful kites emblazoned with images decorate the arcade. A short walk from Keisei-tateishi Station on the Keisei Oshiage Line.
