Description
There are many bridges over the Sumida River, and Kuramae Bridge is one of them. It is located next to Ryogoku Bridge and carries traffic from Kuramaebashi-dori Street. It was constructed in March 1927 following the Great Kanto Earthquake. The bridge is called Kuramae (”front of warehouse”) since rice for the Tokugawa Shogunate was stored here during the Edo period. Painted in bright yellow, the bridge is reminiscent of rice grains. Some 173.4 meters long, and with four-arches, it resembles the Azuma Bridge except for its balcony. Since Tokyo Skytree opened in 2012, the Sumida River has been in the spotlight and received many visitors. An eight-minute walk from Ryogoku Station on the JR Sobu Line, and close to the Ryogoku seabus stop.
