Description
Meijijingu Gaien (outer gardens of Meiji Shrine) was constructed to pass down the achievements of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Historical sites of Meiji era and ancient white pines, which are rare in Japan, are spread about here and there. In the vast leafy premises, there are various facilities in which you can enjoy playing sports, such as the Meiji Shrine baseball ground, golf course, ice skate rink, and batting center. There are also some facilities in which you can enjoy arts and culture, such as the Seitoku Gallery. In contrast to Gaien, Meiji Shrine at Yoyogo is called Naien. There are lines of ginkgo trees that spread for 300 meters from Aoyama-dori to the softball fields, and the splendid view of the autumn leaves is known throughout the world. Also, Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Festival that's held around that time every year is bustling with people. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk from Shinanomachi Station and Sendagaya Station on JR Sobu Line, Kokuritsu-kyogijo Station on Toei Oedo Line, Gaien-mae Station on Subway Ginza Line and Aoyama Itchome Station on Subway Ginza Line, Subway Hanzomon Line and Toei Oedo Line.
