Description
The palace was originally built as Togu Gosho, the residence for Crown prince, in 1909 and was renovated into the current State Guest House in 1974. It has provided accommodation to state guests from around the world. It has also been used as a venue for international conferences such as Japan Summit meetings and ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit meetings. It is a stately and gorgeous western style building in a neo-baroque-style. Its verdigris copper roof and granite exterior walls create a beautiful harmony with Japanese armor-shaped ornaments and the imperial crest of the chrysanthemum. The interior of the palace is open only once a year (usually in the summer) but beginning in April 2016, it is planning to expand the open period in a way that will not affect the service for the guests from overseas. Refer to State Guest House Website for details. It is a seven-minute walk from the Yotsuya Station on JR Chuo-Line, Sobu Line, Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line and Namboku Line.
