Despite being inside a department store, Dining City SPICE offers a spacious and open atmosphere, allowing guests to relax and enjoy their meals. Many central restaurants have minimal walls or partitions, creating an airy and comfortable setting. For an added touch, restaurants facing the windows provide stunning city views from the upper floors, making dining here a truly enjoyable experience.
There are also many restaurants with kids' menus, making them popular among families with younger children. The wide range of lunch and dinner options between the variety of restaurants including Japanese, Western, Chinese, and cafes, means that there's something for everyone.

The Tobu Department Store and Ikebukuro Station are directly connected, and Dining City SPICE is easily accessible via a direct service elevator near the Tobu Tojo Line ticket gate. Enjoy Japanese Cuisine! 6 Must-Try Restaurants for Authentic Flavors at Dining City SPICE
Next, we introduce restaurants where visitors can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, a highlight for many travelers. From classic favorites like sushi and yakiniku to specialties like gyukatsu, okonomiyaki, and matcha desserts, there's a wide range of flavors to explore.
Ginza Fukusuke (Sushi)

Ginza Fukusuke is a long-established restaurant with over 100 years of history. Depending on the occasion, you can choose to sit between counter seats, table seats, or 4-person private rooms. Price ranges for your favorite sushi selection start at 165 yen per piece, and thanks to the order slips provided at the tables, you won't have to worry about language barriers.

The counter provides first-class seats to watch the chefs, with their skillful hands and knifework, prepare the sushi before your eyes. It's also possible to ask the chefs about sushi customization.

At 5,500 yen, the Minato 12-piece sushi set, which comes with steamed egg custard and crab soup on the side, is highly recommended. The chef carefully selects each item, including fatty tuna, sea urchin, and salmon roe (selections vary depending on availability).
Yakiniku Champion (Yakiniku)

An expansion of a popular yakiniku restaurant in Ebisu, Tokyo. The store focuses on specially selected cuts of the highest quality A5 Japanese Black Wagyu. The store interior has a luxurious yet casual atmosphere and gets crowded during lunch hours even on weekdays.

Zabusuki is a popular item on the menu. It is enjoyed by quickly grilling the valuable sukiyaki-style thinly sliced chuck flap and coating it in the Sanei brand Mangetsu eggs. Enjoy the tender texture melting in your mouth. One slice of meat should be enjoyed as is, and the other should be used to wrap rice into bite-sized pieces to be enjoyed like meat sushi.
The 4-piece chef's assortment features four rare cuts specially selected for your enjoyment, or the tender and flavorful Chateaubriand is also recommended. There is quite a selection of high-quality meats available.
Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu (Beef cutlets)

Kyoto Katsugyu is a beef cutlet store that was founded in Kyoto in 2014 and rapidly spread throughout the Kansai region. It also sparked the beef cutlet boom in Japan. With their low-temperature cooking methods, they were able to create an extraordinary beef cutlet that's crispy on the outside but maintains a medium-rare finish on the inside. Specialized breadcrumbs and frying oil are used to give it its light and elegant taste.

Their signature dish is the Kyoto Katsugyu Gozen for 3,234 yen. The luxurious order allows you to have two cuts, a loin cutlet and a tenderloin cutlet. It also comes with a salad, small side dishes, and sweets, a meal for royalty. The multiple sauces provided, such as wasabi and dashi soy sauce, sansho salt, and special cutlet sauce allow you to change the taste, making it an order you'll never get tired of.
Other items on the menu include the Sirloin Gyukatsu Zen, which costs 1,859 yen, and the Thick-cut Tongue Gyukatsu Zen, which costs 2,739 yen. The different cuts offer different textures and tastes. The soup, made with carefully selected Japanese rice and seasonal ingredients, brings out the rich flavors of the premium beef cuts.
Osaka Dotonbori Botejyu (Okonomiyaki)

Botejyu was founded in 1946 in Dotonbori, Osaka. With a history of more than 70 years, it's a long-established store responsible for spreading Osaka's okonomiyaki throughout the country. The Ikebukuro Tobu location has an open kitchen, allowing you to see the enthusiastic chefs working on their craft.

The Botejyu Deluxe Tsukimiyaki (2,178 yen) is a popular order combining fresh cabbage, meat, and seafood with a dough made from carefully selected wheat flowers with yams and natural dashi added to the mix. The order is finished off with some special sauce and Osaka mayonnaise, and the tase can be further enhanced with original spicy mustard. The fluffy texture is accompanied by its fragrant aroma, and the dish is served on a hot plate, ensuring it stays hot until it's gone.

Botejyu is also the birthplace of “modanyaki,” a hearty dish made of yakisoba noodles atop okonomiyaki that can now be found at okonomiyaki shops around the country.
Minokichi (Kyo Kaiseki, Traditional Japanese course-dinner)

Minokichi was founded in Kyoto in 1716, and as such retains a more than 300-year history of being known as a famous restaurant in Japan that preserves traditional Kyoto cuisine.

Minokichi's Kyo-kaiseki is known for its elegance in both its presentation and taste. The delicate and artistic meal presentation unique to Japan can be seen in the many dishes, which also use various vegetables from Kyoto. The kaiseki course changes monthly which means that every month you can enjoy the flavors of each season through seasonal ingredients.
Since its founding, Minokichi has specialized in dishes using river game, and its local eel dishes are a running favorite. Unajyu (6,050 yen) is a plump grilled eel dish in a secret sauce that is delicious until the last bite.
Kyoto Saryo Suisen (Matcha sweets)

Saryo Suisen is a sweets store based in Kyoto that specializes in matcha sweets. Within the relaxed atmosphere with its Japanesque interior you'll find a selection of parfaits and Japanese sweets that use rich Uji matcha.

The store offers a variety of parfaits, including the Suisen Parfait Strong Matcha topped with Kansai matcha Mikasa, a red bean paste sweet or warabi-mochi (1,630 yen), the Matcha Cake Parfait overflowing with matcha cake and jelly (1,800 yen), and the Hojicha Cake Parfait stuffed with hojicha sweets (1,800 yen).
Their bittersweet drink collection including matcha beer and matcha latte is popular among adults. Their food menu offers a basic Lunch Set that comes with a sea bream dashi and yuba rice chazuke, tea poured over rice (2,300 yen), and the lunch Udon Set using Gion Matayoshi-approved noodles (2,400 yen).
Beyond Japanese Cuisine! Must-Try Italian, Curry, and Chinese Restaurants
Dining City SPICE offers more than just Japanese cuisine. Next, we'll take a look at other unique restaurants including a restaurant that originated in Hokkaido and a Chinese restaurant sure to appeal to spicy food lovers.
Mia Bocca (Italian cuisine)

Mia Bocca is an Italian restaurant using ingredients sourced from Hokkaido. Their authentic Neapolitan pizza and variety of pasta are quite popular. The restaurant offers lunch sets and dinner courses so you can enjoy an authentic Italian meal in a casual setting.

The 100% Hokkaido wheat dough pizza is especially recommended. The kiln-baked dough is crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. Their best-selling Hokkaido Margherita (1,680 yen) is a simple dish in which you can enjoy the taste of the perfect combination of Hokkaido mozzarella and fresh tomato sauce.
Suage (Soup curry)

The soup curry restaurant Suage is another popular store. It originated in Hokkaido and serves a combination of exquisite spicy soup and deep-fried vegetables. The rich yet light taste it leaves in your mouth leaves customers wanting more. The level of spiciness can also be adjusted, making it safe for those who can't handle spicy food.

The 7-vegetable crispy Shiretoko Chicken Curry (1,680 yen) is a popular item on the Ikebukuro Tobu location's menu. The curry has a strong aroma and is full of crispy grilled chicken and deep-fried vegetables with a rich thick soup.
Shisen Hanten (Chinese cuisine)

Authentic Sichuan cuisine such as shark fin and other seafood dishes, noodles and dim sum can be found at Shisen Hanten. The Ikebukuro location also has a value Lunch Select Set (2,200 yen) that combines a main dish with noodles.

If you're into spicy food, we highly recommend the Shisen Hanten traditional Mapo Tofu (2,000 yen) using Sansho pepper. The numbing spiciness is addictive and characteristic of Sichuan cuisine. If you're not into spicy foods, then we recommend the First Japanese Mapo Tofu (2,000 yen).
