Description
Amuse Museum houses a museum of the textile culture and ukiyo-e (paintings of everyday life in the Edo period 1603 – 1868), a select shop of Japanese-style products, and an event hall. It introduces the Japanese art and craft through exhibitions and movies. Its permanent exhibition, BORO, is a precious collection of Tanaka Chuzaburo, a folklorist. Boro means a rag, a piece of old clothing that has been repeatedly patched up and sewn over generations. You can see the collection of boro and old Japanese everyday tools that attracts a great deal of attention from the world. It also shows super-high-resolution digital movies of Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, and Kitagawa Utamaro's (ukiyoe painters) famous ukiyoe artwork, which you can see in real life only at the Boston Museum. There is a museum shop in the complex, and it sells small Japanese-styled articles such as towels or fans and traditional crafts created by various artists. It is located a five-minute walk from the Asakusa Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line and the Tobu Isesaki Line.
