As an area that formerly prospered as a quarry, the excavated cavern that now makes up Oya History Museum was quarried for Oya stone for about 70 years from 1919 to 1986, leaving a gigantic underground space. The cavern covers about 20,000 sqm and reaches a depth of up to 30 meters. Scars in the rock from the days of pickaxes still remain, evoking profound thoughts about the life experiences of other people . The view of the massive underground space is breathtaking and seems almost like an underground architectural feat.
In present times, the underground cavern is open to the public for visitors to enjoy delving into its depths. Various fun events are also held in this space.
