Description
Breads have evolved differently in each country due to variations in the amount of wheat and rye - the main ingredients of bread - harvested due to the weather and soil quality. Kawagoe Bakery Raku-Raku focusses on making the soft, chewy breads the Japanese prefer rather than the crunchier or denser breads typical of France and Germany. The ingredients, including the wheat, can clearly be tasted in the additive-free bread made using wheat from Hokkaido. The bakery is also distinguished by its focus on Japanese-style pastries called kashi pan, that cannot be found overseas. The kashi pan, which are made by wrapping ingredients such as sweet bean paste and curry with bread dough, are popular among local children and families. It also sells a variety of breads such as the standard bread for sandwiches and a sweet and salty bread made using miso (soybean paste). It is two minutes on foot from the Fudanotsuji stop on the Tobu Bus, which is an 8-minute ride from JR Kawagoe Station.
