Description
Bodaigi Pond is right next to Seibu Dome (professional baseball field) on the east side, but you can hear the chirping of birds and the croaking of frogs at this tranquil pond. There is Seibu-en Golf Course to the south, and the northern area is surrounded by Sayama Lakeside Cemetery. The small Bodaigi Pond is reached by walking down the trail from the cemetery. It was once used as a water source for the paddy field located downstream. However, when the number of paddy fields decreased with urban development, this pond became disused. It became a wasteland filled with fallen leaves and dirt. Currently, the local community is pursuing conservation activities, and water flows into the pond; tadpoles and frogs are considered signs of recovery. This pond, along with surrounding wetlands, brooks and paddy fields, provides a satoyama landscape. A 15-minute walk from Seibu Kyujo-mae Station on the Seibu Sayama Line. (There is no parking.)
