Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History

The Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Cultural History is a one-minute walk from the Minato Mirai Line Bashamichi Station or only a short walk from Kan'nai Station on various lines. The museum building was built in 1904 to house the central branch of Yokohama Specie Bank and is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The museum is located in this historical building, exhibiting historical and culture-related materials sectioned by era. Its collection varies from the ancient stone implements and earthenware to ukiyo-e (woodblock prints) that portray foreigners who lived in Yokohama after the opening of the Port of Yokohama. Special exhibitions are held several times a year, so visitors can see and learn how the townscape and people's lives in Yokohama have changed over the course of time. It has a museum library, a museum shop, and a cafe on the first floor. The museum shop sells pictorial records as well as original goods depicting works from the museum collection.
