America Yama Park

アメリカ山公園

Description

The park was named ”America-yama” after the history of the area that was associated with the American Legation in the early Meiji period (1868-1912) and then used as an American military facility site after WWII. The park is the first multi-story urban park in Japan which was built by combining the upper part of the Motomachi-Chinatown station building on Minato Mirai Line, which is the closest station to nationally famous Motomachi Shopping Street and Chinatown, and the adjoining hillside area. Upon exiting from the Motomachi-Shinyamashita ticket gate, take the elevator or escalator on the right to go up to the top floor. There you will find the lawn field in front of you. It is a beautiful observation park with flowers and plants of the seasons such as colorful roses as well as a row of American dogwood trees which are planted after the park name. Why not take a memorial shot with the symbol of Yokohama, the Marine Tower, in the background? Romantic Christmas-time illuminations are also recommended. It could also be used as a gateway towards tourism around the former foreign settlements and Yamate area where Harbor View Park, Western-style buildings, and international school are located.
