Description
Towering 29 meters high, the three-floored and five-storied pagoda, which is built in the kokerabuki shiraki zukuri style, is said to be the oldest pagoda in Tohoku. In 1372, it was rebuilt by Muto Masauji, who was the liege lord of Shonai and the head priest of Mt. Haguro. The pagoda was designated as a National Treasure in 1966.
