Niseko / Rusutsu:Overview & History
The general name for the area around the base of Mt. Yotei and Rusutsu. It's a little more than an hour away from Sapporo and New Chitose Airport by car. Mt. Yotei is famed as "Hokkaido's Mt. Fuji," beautiful and distinct. From spring until fall, the clear Shiribetsu River is available for watersports like rafting or canoeing. In the winter, skiers from around the world gather to enjoy the area's powder snow. Many of the area's hotels and inns have hot spring baths, which draw from 15 hot springs, each with their own characteristics. Finally, as one of Hokkaido's few centers of dairy farming, try some of the popular dairy products and treats made with fresh milk.
