Kongo Sanmaiin

Description

Kongo Sanmaiin was built by Hojo Masako to pray to Buddha to repose the souls of her husband Minamoto no Yoritomo and son Minamoto no Sanetomo. The temple is home to Mount Koya cultural properties, including the two-storied pagoda (designated as a national treasure, a scripture house), Shinto shrine, living quarters, and fusuma (paper sliding door) paintings. Designated as a natural monument, the rhododendron flowers at the end of May make for a spectacular sight.
