Description
Kii-Tanabe Station in southern Wakayama Prefecture is the main entry point for the Nakahechi Route of the UNESCO-listed Kumano Kodo pilgrimage.
Next to the station is the Tanabe Tourist Information Center, where English-speaking staff provide assistance with route planning, transportation information, and event details. Volunteer guides are also available and can lead walking tours around the city. Bicycle rentals are offered as well.
Since Kumano Kodo trekking often spans several days, a same-day luggage delivery service is available by reservation, allowing travelers to send large bags directly to their accommodations.
Buses from the station terminal travel to key locations such as Takijiri-oji, the starting point of the Kumano Kodo, and Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine. To address transportation gaps during early morning, nighttime, and busy seasons, public ride-share trials have begun to improve convenience.
