Ryujin Onsen

Description

Opened over 1,300 years ago, this onsen has long been known amongst Kumano worshipers. The name is said to derive from a legend in which the monk Kobo Daishi received a divine message from Nando Ryuo (a dragon king), leading him to discover the hot spring. In the Edo period, the hot springs flourished as an official retreat of the Kishu Domain, and the site is famous as one of Japan's top three beauty hot springs.
