Description

Tenjin Festival is one of Japan’s top three festivals. The main event is called “Funatogyo”, during which portable shrines are loaded on to boats and paraded up and down the river. At the center of this event, the deity of the shrine is loaded onto a boat where then approximately 100 boats follow each other up and down the river, forming a massive, living picture scroll with Osaka castle in the background.
