Getting a portable WiFi router in Osaka makes life so much easier. Here we'll introduce shops where you can rent Wi-Fi routers near Osaka Station, the starting point to any Osaka sightseeing trip.
Do I need Wifi in Osaka? Before you rent, check out Osaka's free hotspots
While traveling, whether you can access the internet or not is an important factor.
First, we will introduce the free, public, wireless LAN service geared toward foreign visitors located in Osaka Station City, adjacent to Osaka Station (service is available to everyone regardless of country of citizenship in the event of a large-scale disaster).
The service is provided on the JR Osaka Station platforms and the 1st and 3rd-floor ticket gate areas, and the 3rd floor of Osaka Station City North Gate building near the information center.
Connecting to the Wi-Fi is easy. First, before the day of your visit, send a blank email to "jrw@forguest.wi2.ne.jp", and wait for your guest code to be emailed back to you.
After you arrive, go to one of the 11 service areas, including within JR Osaka Station and at the adjoining Osaka Station City, in the "Atrium Plaza" on the 2nd floor, the 5th floor "Toki-no-Hiroba" (Time and Space Plaza), and the 14th floor "Tenku-no-Noen" (Sky Farm).
Then, select the SSID "JR-WEST Wi-Fi", and simply log in to use the service.
Even if you haven't received your guest code, you can go to the information center on the 3rd floor of Osaka Station City North Gate Building and get help connecting to the Wi-Fi there.
Osaka portable WiFi: Router rentals at Osaka Station
Wi-Fi router rental services are also provided at the information center on the 3rd floor of Osaka Station City North Gate Building. To register, submit the passport for one traveler (a copy will be made), complete the application form, and pay by credit card.
You can rent a Wi-Fi router for 1,296 yen (tax included) per day and simultaneously use unlimited internet access on up to 14 devices. A 10,000 yen deposit is required for each device.
Since you can return the routers primarily at specified airport service counters (Narita Airport, Haneda Airport, Kansai International Airport, Chubu Centrair International Airport, Fukuoka Airport), the portable Wi-Fi router can be used until the very end of your trip.
Don't forget to take advantage of the benefits of the router rentals affiliated with Osaka Station.

Osaka portable WiFi: Cheap and Convenient "Wi-Fi Channel"
Wi-Fi Channel, Osaka Umeda Shop is a Wi-Fi router rental store located inside the Osaka Ekimae 2nd Building, accessible via a 5-minute walk through the underground shopping center from JR Osaka Station.
If routers are available, you can receive one directly from the shop without a reservation within the 10 minutes it takes to sign a contract.
Once your contract period is over, place all your rented items into the return letter pack envelope (370 yen, tax not included) and put it into a post office box anywhere in Japan. It is also possible to return the devices directly at the shop.
There are two types of routers to rent, one for 500 yen and one for 450 yen (neither include taxes). The 500 yen device is a high-capacity router with up to 10 GB of data per day. With the 450 yen device, if you exceed 30 GB of data per month, the carrier will throttle the connection.
Still, it also has a high capacity battery of up to 12 hours of battery life, so the ability to use it without needing to charge is one benefit.
Either router can be connected to up to 10 devices, so if you aren't viewing movies or other high data transmission media, the 450 yen device may be sufficient.
