Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival

This is a ”homemade fireworks display” in that the planning, management and execution of the event is done by a staff of local volunteers comprised of local businesses, groups, and shops without financial assistance but funded only by donations of local residents who love Osaka, a city built on water, through which the Yodogawa River flows.

It was started in 1989 by citizen volunteers and has since firmly become a ”Naniwa Summer Tradition.” It is one of the largest and most popular fireworks displays in Japan.

The program includes fireworks launched to the accompaniment of music and the colorful displays far exceed the expectations of visitors each year.
