OMO Kansai Airport Review: Great Stay for Food, Fun, and Relaxation
- Written by: WESTPLAN
- Translated by: Krys Suzuki
When traveling to Kansai International Airport, you may encounter one of its most common challenges: its distance from the city center. After a long day of travel, or even before returning home, the prospect of a long bus or train ride can feel daunting, especially for early morning or late-night flights. That’s why we highly recommend OMO Kansai Airport by Hoshino Resorts.
Hoshino Resorts is known for offering high-quality accommodations across Japan, with a mission to “make travel enjoyable.” It is particularly popular with foreign tourists and runs several brands, each with its own unique characteristics.
OMO Kansai Airport is the first airport hotel under the OMO brand, which aims to redefine city tourism. Just one train stop from Kansai International Airport, this hotel boasts a diverse array of dining, entertainment, and relaxation options.
Keiko Kimura, a writer with Westplan and avid solo traveler, provides an in-depth report on this charming hotel that offers much more than just easy access to the airport!

OMO Kansai Airport: The Basics
OMO Kansai Airport is located at Rinku-Town Station, just one stop from Kansai Airport Station along the Nankai and JR lines. Thanks to its excellent location near western Japan's largest airport, it draws in tourists from all over the world.
When you arrive at Rinku-Town Station, head towards Exit 5 and turn left. You’ll see a sign for OMO Kansai Airport by Hoshino Resorts as you exit the ticket gate, making it easy for even first-time visitors to find their way.
As soon as you exit, you’ll arrive at OMO Kansai Airport, just a minute’s walk from the ticket gate to the hotel entrance. You won’t have to carry your bulky luggage for long, and the flat, paved walkway ensures a smooth and hassle-free arrival.
OMO Kansai Airport was designed for the convenience of travelers using the airport. The hotel features guest rooms and facilities to help visitors recover from long flights while also offering experiences that showcase Japan's unique food and culture, making it much more than just a place to sleep.
- Access from Kansai International Airport: Take the JR/Nankai Airport Line from Kansai Airport to Rinku-Town Station (5 min). It's a 1-minute walk from Exit 5.
- Access from Osaka Area: From Namba Station, take Nankai Line Rapi:t Express to Rinku-Town Station (approx. 30 min). From Tennoji Station, take JR Hanwa Line to Rinku-Town Station (approx. 40 min).
- Access from Kyoto Area: From Kyoto Station, take the JR Limited Express Haruka to Tennoji Station, then transfer to the JR Hanwa Line to Rinku-Town Station (approx. 100 min).
Smooth Self Check-in via Tablet
Upon entering, the lobby welcomes you with its spacious, upbeat atmosphere. True to its airport hotel theme, it features airplane motifs throughout that instantly elevate your travel mood!
The self check-in area is set up like an airport check-in counter, with rows of tablets for guests to use and a sleek, modern design that adds a fun, futuristic touch.
The tablets support multiple languages, including English, traditional and simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Card keys are available beside the tablets—just take one and place it on the designated terminal to customize it for your stay.
Tablets provide clear instructions, making it user-friendly for even first-time visitors. If you have any questions, feel free to ask the front desk staff for assistance.
The OMO Base (lobby) also has real-time flight information for Kansai International Airport. Anyone who’s ever arrived too early or dealt with a flight delay will find it super convenient to see their flight status in real time!
Another highlight of the OMO Hotel is the Go-KINJO Map, seen in the OMO Base, which highlights recommended spots around the hotel. It offers a variety of suggestions, including nearby restaurants and other attractions a bit further out, making it easy to enjoy the surrounding area even more!
The OMO Kansai Airport public relations team highly recommends Tenkichi, a restaurant just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. This izakaya specializes in conger eel, a local delicacy. In fact, their boiled conger eel dish with tempura and special sauce is said to be exceptional!
Rooms with Scenic Views! A Spacious and Relaxing Atmosphere
After check-in, head straight to your room. OMO Kansai Airport offers eight types of guest rooms, including twin rooms, queen rooms, and dog-friendly twin rooms. The twin rooms are simple yet stylish, with a calm, natural wooden ambiance that’s perfect for relaxation.
The best part is the view! With no tall buildings around, you’re treated to an open, refreshing panorama that’s nothing short of amazing. The beautiful contrast between the distant Izumi Mountains and the city skyline is a sight you’ll want to gaze at for hours. Stretching across Osaka and Wakayama, the Izumi Mountains add a breathtaking natural backdrop that captures the essence of Kansai’s landscape.
While there isn’t a dedicated work desk, the spacious TV stand works well as a makeshift workspace for light tasks. It’s also great having a separate washstand and mirror outside the bathroom.
With separate bathroom and toilet areas, this setup is perfect for families or groups. The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, while the toilet is equipped with a comfortable heated bidet seat.
The queen room is a compact version of the twin room, with a queen-size bed and either a shower or a unit bath.
The Japanese-Western room offers a distinct Japanese ambiance, with both beds and futons. Two beds are set on the carpeted area, while two futon sets can be arranged on the tatami space. This room is ideal for families and groups, with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the traditional Japanese ambiance.
The Japanese-Western room’s bathroom is slightly larger than that in the twin room, making it a great choice for families with young kids who need a bit more room.
Everything You Need and More! Five Features Travelers Will Love
OMO Kansai Airport offers a relaxing stay with spacious beds and simple rooms, while also providing a variety of fun amenities. Here are five services that are sure to delight travelers!
1. OMO Base: Great Wi-Fi for Effortless Travel Planning and Work
The OMO Base, located on the first and second floors, is equipped with Wi-Fi and offers a versatile space to kick back and relax. With no dedicated desks in the guest rooms, this area serves as a co-working space where you can also enjoy takeout from local restaurants, or chat with your friends as you hammer out your travel plans.
There are also chairs and tables designed to resemble airplane seats, adding a playful touch that only adds to the excitement of travel.
2. Refresh Yourself in the Spacious Public Baths
On the third floor, you'll find a spacious public bath where guests can indulge in a relaxing soak. There are six types of baths to choose from, including hot baths to ease your fatigue, refreshing cold water baths, and carbonated baths that gently caresses your skin. It’s a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in Japan’s bath culture!
Choosing the semi-open-air bath allows you to enjoy the refreshing sea breeze in a relaxing, open space. The facility also includes a dry sauna, ideal for alternating between hot and cold baths to effectively relieve travel fatigue. Easy-to-follow guides on bath usage and etiquette are provided, ensuring that even first-time visitors can relax and enjoy their experience with confidence.
3. Connect with Other Travelers on the Rooftop Bar
Recently opened on November 1, 2024, the Yona Yona Moonwalk rooftop bar, produced by the famous Japanese craft brewer Yoho Brewing, invites guests to enjoy craft beer and light snacks in a vibrant setting reminiscent of a novel. The concept offers “a brief journey into the world of Yona Yona craft beer,” ensuring an exciting experience for all.
The casual, retro-futuristic design creates a welcoming environment, making it easy for solo travelers to drop in without feeling out of place. It’s a must-visit spot, even for those new to bars!
- Hours: 5 PM - 11 PM (Last Order: 10:30 PM)
Opened: November 1, 2024 - Access: Open to hotel guests and members of craft beer subscription service 'Hirake! Yona Yona Tsuki no Seikatsu'
4. Enjoy Engaging Cultural Experiences
If you find yourself with some free time, consider joining one of the workshops offered (varies by day). These programs provide opportunities to immerse yourself in the local culture of the Senshu area. On this particular day, the available workshop focused on Senshu towels, a special product of the region.
Senshu towels are recognized for their superior water absorbency compared to regular towels. This difference is especially noticeable when the towels are placed in water—the Senshu towel (the white one pictured left) quickly absorbs water and sinks!
The workshop is mainly conducted in Japanese, but English materials are also available. On the day of the event, an informational signboard will be displayed near the information counter on the second floor.
(*Times and content are subject to change.)
5. Uplifting Baggage Room Design
Opening in November 2024, the decor in the baggage room is inspired by the airport, complete with runway and airplane designs for a touch of excitement. This spacious area offers ample secure lockers and suitcase storage options, allowing you to store your souvenirs and bulky luggage with ease.
The room also provides enough space to spread out your belongings and weigh your suitcase, making it easy to organize everything before heading to the airport. Say goodbye to last-minute panic at the check-in counter!
Experience Dinner at OMO Dining with Breathtaking Views
After exploring the hotel and relaxing in your room, it’s time for your much-anticipated dinner. Make your way to OMO Dining on the 21st floor, where you can enjoy a buffet dinner in a stunning all-glass dining area.
This is the only location offering amazing views of both the ocean and cityscape, together! Photos don’t quite do it justice, so be sure to see the breathtaking scenery for yourself!
The dinner buffet operates on the philosophy that guests can “eat what they like, as much as they like.” The menu includes a variety of comfort dishes that evoke a sense of home for many Japanese diners, along with a variety of Japanese, Western, Chinese, and Italian cuisine.
There are also mouth-watering options like takoyaki-style satsuma-age (fried fish cake), basil salad with mozzarella and tomatoes, fried chicken, and meatballs—all incredibly tempting and delicious!
Osaka’s signature dishes, okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, are made fresh at the live kitchen. True to Osaka’s “combo-plate” culture, you can savor combinations such as steak and kushikatsu, or okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, all on the same plate!
For those who prefer to enjoy their meal in the privacy of their own room, take-out is available. We especially recommend this for those traveling with small children. Simply ask the staff for a take-out box and fill it with your favorites! The menu includes English translations and ingredient information, ensuring that even vegans and vegetarians can make safe choices with ease.
(*Please note that there is no Halal dinner buffet.)
Spectacular Morning Views and Fluffy Pancakes! Enjoy a Lavish Breakfast Buffet
Of course, breakfast is served at OMO Dining, as well. Start your day with a nutritious spread that includes fresh vegetables, carrot rapé, soup, porridge, stewed dishes, bread, grilled fish, omelets, and detox water.
At the live kitchen, you can enjoy fresh, fluffy pancakes along with four unlimited options: eggs Benedict, strawberry rare cheese, onion salmon, and chocolate banana (with a hint of orange). The delightful combination of soft, fluffy pancakes and various toppings is sure to help you start your day with a smile!
And the morning view is simply spectacular! Whether you’re heading out for sightseeing or getting ready to return home, the beautiful sights and delicious flavors will energize you for the day ahead. As with dinner, you can also use the take-out boxes to enjoy breakfast in your room.
Although there is no Halal breakfast buffet, you can request a breakfast box by reserving three days in advance—so be sure to make your request ahead of time.

Travel Writer's Picks: Additional Highlights You’ll Love!
OMO Kansai Airport offers well-appointed guest rooms, a variety of facilities, dining options, and a comprehensive area map. Here are a few personal highlights of the little conveniences that'll really make a positive impact on your stay.
1. Comfortable In-house Attire
While guest rooms do not include pajamas or bathrobes, in-house attire can be rented in the lobby on the second floor. Available in sizes SS to LL, each set costs 200 yen. The simple short-sleeved shirts and shorts are pleasantly thick and soft, making them comfortable enough to wear all day long.
2. Handy Bag for the Public Bathhouse
Each guest room is equipped with a handy bag for carrying your change of clothes and towels to the large public bath. In Japanese public bathhouses, it’s common to bring necessary items from your room with you, and put them in the lockers in the changing area. The waterproof silicone bag has a wide opening, making it easy to pack and access your belongings.
3. Hassle-free Computer Work
Although there is no dedicated desk, the room includes a work counter that makes computer tasks easy and stress-free. The Wi-Fi speed is also great, making it easy to sit down and get some focused work done.
4. Easy-to-use Water Dispenser
Standard water bottles tend to run out quickly during your travels. But having the option to refill a single bottle with fresh water as often as you need is a service you'll greatly appreciate!
5. User-Friendly Laundry Facilities
The coin laundry on the 3rd floor features automatic detergent dispensing, which is a convenient option since you don’t need to bring your own. Although I didn’t use it during my stay, I have had the experience of forgetting my detergent while traveling and having to purchase it locally, so this feature was a welcome addition.
The convenience store on the 2nd floor also makes shopping easy without having to leave the hotel, and offers a wide selection of bento, sandwiches, snacks, beverages, and daily necessities (such as face wash and makeup items).
Hassle-Free and Efficient Check-Out
After a restful stay, it’s time to check out. The hotel offers a convenient self-checkout system right in your room—simply scan the provided QR code, follow the instructions, and return your key in the designated drop box to complete the process.
Right next to the in-house clothing rental area, you'll find a souvenir shop stocked with tasteful gifts and food items. Amongst the recommended items are the locally produced thick sauce, and onion sable cookies. The sauce is particularly delicious when added to okonomiyaki and yakisoba!
Payments can be made through self-service tablets, and credit cards and QR payments are accepted. For those who prefer to pay in cash, please see the staff at the information counter.
