Description
Monzeki Temple is also known as “Takenouchi Monzeki.” The main hall was built on Mt. Hiei by Saicho. In 1656, the temple was moved to its current location by Ryosho-Nyudoshinno who was the son of Prince Toshihito Hachijo, the man who built the Katsura Imperial Villa. The temple is often referred to as a smaller version of the Katsura Imperial Villa, and has many highlights including the Great Shoin hall and garden, which are designated as important cultural properties. You can enjoy the beauty of this garden throughout all four seasons, and it is particularly famous for its autumn foliage views.
