Shiretoko National Park

Shiretoko National Park, whose name comes from the Ainu words for "the end of the earth," is a UNESCO World Heritage site shaped by drift ice, rich ecosystems, and volcanic peaks. There are two ways to experience its wild beauty: walking through primeval forest around the Shiretoko Five Lakes, or taking a sightseeing cruise from Utoro to view the cliffs and coastline from the sea. Your chances of spotting Ezo deer, brown bears, and white-tailed eagles are high year-round. If you're not confident in your stamina, or traveling with parents and grandparents, the cruise is an easy way to take in the scenery at a relaxed pace.
