Description
Kushiro Marsh, Japan's largest wetland, stretches 25 km east to west and 36 km north to south. Sweeping views open up from its observatories and from train windows, and walking the boardwalks brings you close to wildlife such as red-crowned cranes and sika deer. The view and mood change noticeably depending on which observatory you visit, which is why many travelers combine the eastern and western sides of the marsh into one trip. It's one of Eastern Hokkaido's signature landscapes, changing character with every season.
