JTB, Japan’s leading travel company, and JR Tokai, operator of the Tokaido Shinkansen, have joined forces to introduce a groundbreaking service that makes traveling across Japan easier than ever.
Launched on November 1, 2025, the same-day baggage delivery service LUGGAGE EXPRESS delivers luggage between hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto on the same day, redefining what it means to travel hands-free.
How LUGGAGE EXPRESS Changes the Norm of Japanese Travel
Putting an End to the Large Luggage Problem for International Visitors
LUGGAGE EXPRESS takes the hassle out of long-distance travel. Drop off your luggage at your Tokyo hotel in the morning, and it will be waiting for you in Kyoto that same evening. With your hands free, you can make the most of your travel day between Tokyo and Kyoto, exploring and sightseeing with ease.
A Trustworthy Tag Team! Speed and Reliability by JTB and JR Tokai
Behind the service’s impressive speed is JR Tokai’s same-day business delivery network, Tokaido Mach Bin. It makes full use of the Shinkansen’s core qualities: speed, accuracy, frequent departures, and minimal vibration. Your suitcase travels in the same reliable system that keeps Japan moving—aboard the Shinkansen itself.

Once your reservation is confirmed, a “Reservation Ticket” will be sent to you by email.
STEP 2. Drop Off Your Luggage at the Front Desk
Luggage drop-off is accepted until 9 AM on the day.
Show your “Reservation Ticket” at your hotel’s front desk, attach the designated tag to your luggage, and hand it over.

LUGGAGE EXPRESS Helps Tourist Destinations and Local Communities, Too!
Benefits Beyond Travelers: Solving Challenges for Accommodations and Tourist Spots
This service stands out for offering advantages not just to travelers, but also to hotels and local communities. With fewer travelers carrying large bags on public transport or using station lockers, overall congestion is reduced. At the same time, by relying on energy-efficient rail transport, it contributes to building a more sustainable tourism environment.
Ditch Travel Stress, Enjoy Hands-Free Freedom!
LUGGAGE EXPRESS is more than a delivery service. It is a strategic digital transformation initiative that combines Japan’s Shinkansen technology with the expertise of its tourism industry to meet travelers’ needs for time, freedom, and comfort. Consider adding LUGGAGE EXPRESS to your Japan travel plans this winter to enjoy a truly hands-free journey.
