Springtime in Japan often evokes the image of beautiful pink sakura cherry blossoms in the minds of most. Japan has a tendency to come up with seasonal products quite literally - especially during the blossom season! That's why you can always expect to see a plethora of limited edition sakura-based goods hitting the shelves in spring.
One of 2019’s most anticipated seasonal sakura goods is the "Sakura Saku (Blooming Sakura) Do-Donut" from iconic donut chain, Mister Donut. Six different types of donuts in this assortment will be available for a limited time from the 1st of March to early April 2019.
"Sakura Saku Do-Donut" takes inspiration from the traditional Japanese confection sakuramochi, a sakura-flavored sticky rice ball dessert with red bean filling wrapped in a pickled sakura leaf. Three of the donuts available in this assortment are shaped like sakura petals and made with a special dough mixture that emulates the original dessert's springiness. Biting into a donut that doesn't just look like a sakura petal, but reminds you of a traditional Japanese snack at the same time will be an intriguing blend of taste and feel.

Old-fashioned donuts were introduced as part of Mister Donut's regular menu in 2013 and quickly became a big hit with customers. The other three treats in "Sakura Saku Do-Donut" - aptly named "Sakura-Fashioned" - are donuts made from old-fashioned donut dough thoroughly kneaded with sakura powder. If you're in the mood for a taste of early spring, you can't go wrong with any of the donuts in "Sakura Saku Do-Donut"!
