Mt. Fuji, the pride and center of Japan’s heart, extends over both Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Despite being so far away, it can also be seen clearly from Tokyo. The famous ukiyo-e (Japanese woodblock print) artists, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, left behind many images of Mt. Fuji as observed from Tokyo, known at that time as “Edo”. In this article, we will introduce to you the absolute best places to see Mt. Fuji from Tokyo, where you can get that great shot to bring home and show to all your family and friends.
Race the Sun for Your Chance to See "Diamond Fuji" at the Tokyo Sea Life Park!
The Tokyo Sea Life Park, in Tokyo's Edogawa ward, is a fabulous aquarium that faces Tokyo Bay. On a sunny day, it commands a view of Mount Fuji unobstructed by any of the city’s tall buildings. When the sunset falls on Mt. Fuji you have a clear shot of the sun resting on the summit and glittering like a diamond, famously called “Diamond Fuji.” Another great place to see “Diamond Fuji” is from the ferris wheel within the park, making Tokyo Sea Life Park number three on our list of best places to see Mt. Fuji.

Dinner and a Picture: Enjoy the View of Mount Fuji at the Sankaitei Restaurant in Hokutopia
Hokutopia is a 17-storied cultural facility close to JR Oji Station. With a building that tall, you can bet you’re going to see some amazing sights! On clear days at the restaurant "Sankaitei,” you can see a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. You can relax and enjoy the scenery while having a meal. Of course, they do have other facilities and attractions including a theater, tea room, and a conference room, all available for an additional charge, making it a great opportunity to learn a little more about Japan. Hokutopia is loved by the local people as a place to interact and spend time with other people, exchange cultural ideas, and grab a bite to eat at Sankaitei. Hokutopia is number two on our list of best places to see Mt. Fuji.

Visit Fujimi Terrace and be Rewarded with Another Diamond Fuji
Finally we come to the number one, best place to see Mt. Fuji in Tokyo. Fujimi Terrace was selected as one of the top 100 views of Mt. Fuji in the Kanto region by the Kanto Regional Development Bureau Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. On December 18th, 19th and 25th in particular, the sun is perfectly positioned so that it sets directly over Mt. Fuji, creating the “Diamond Fuji” effect mentioned earlier. This attracts many photographers from far and wide, especially since entry to the terrace is free of charge. The entrance is on the right (west side) entrance after you exit through the ticket gate at Higashikurume Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line. Also in Higashikurume city are Ochiaigawa (Ochiai River) and Minamisawa Yuusuigun (Minamisawa Springs), the only places in Tokyo selected as one of the "100 exquisite and well-conserved waters of the Heisei Period."
