Traveling is one of the best things ever, but let’s be honest – it can also be terribly exhausting. Fret not, though, as Japan is known as the land of ingenuous goodies to make life cuter and a lot more convenient! Head over to Tokyu Hands, a department store chain that’ll supply you with pretty much everything, from stationery to souvenirs and kitchen goods. Of course, Tokyu Hands also offers a large variety of travel goods! We spoke to the store’s staff to get some insider recommendations about the things that are absolutely indispensable for a more comfortable travel experience.
Tokyu Hands is found at all of Tokyo’s major stations, including Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Tokyo as well as all over Japan and even abroad. The shop has the fun mission to make our daily lives not only more enjoyable but also more convenient - in every aspect.
Eye Mask Sukima Shirazu – Turn Mid-Flight into Midnight!
Whether you’re taking a plane, train, or bus, traveling from one place to the other is the perfect time to get some sleep – there’s not much else to do anyway! However, if you don’t happen to travel during the night, the broad daylight coming in from the window on the side can keep you from getting some nice shuteye.
This eye mask contains low rebound urethane, which means that it fits the shape of your face wonderfully snugly, preventing any light from creeping in at the sides. It is also enhanced with a Binchotan charcoal sheet, keeping it nice and cool all around, and features antibacterial properties as well. With this baby, you’ll sleep like a log!
Hanareru to Alarm – Catching Every Wannabe Thief Right in the Act
Whenever you travel, there’s this slight worry about your luggage being stolen or you losing something on the way. It adds stress to an experience that could otherwise be thoroughly enjoyable, so of course, Japan has a remedy for that.
The “Hanareru to Alarm,” which literally means “alarm when something gets away,” features master/slave technology to secure your luggage. You hold on to the master unit while attaching the slave to whatever piece you want to protect. If said piece gets too far away from you, it will sound an alarm and vibrate as a warning. It can be set to either short (3~5m) or long (7~12m).
Travel Hook Osageyasu – Extra Space on Your Suitcase!
Shopping for souvenirs is an inherent part of every journey. Or even just stopping at a supermarket and stocking up on snacks to enjoy in the train or at the hotel. As such, you’ll find yourself with quite a few shopping bags and no place to put them.
Here’s where the Travel Hook Osageyasu comes in. It can be attached to the handle of your suitcase and adjusted to offer a hook for all of your purchases! It fits seamlessly and doesn’t fall off, sure to make your life on the go just a bit more convenient.
JTB Trunk Scale – Never Be Surprised by Overweight Again
It’s one of the most common unpleasant surprises at the airport: your suitcase weighs too much, resulting in a hefty fee. This scale is a convenient goodie that can handle up to 50kg and is easy to bring along, providing a great way to check your luggage even at the hotel. Simply turn on the power, put the strap on the handle of the trunk and lift it with both hands!
The Washable Pouch – Laundry Made Easy!
This ingenious pouch is an original idea of Tokyu Hands. It is made of a mesh material that works just like a laundry net. This means that you can use this pouch to put all of your dirty laundry in and once you return back home (or do a laundry day during your journey), simply throw this pouch in the washing machine as it is! It comes in three different sizes (S, M, and L) and all sorts of colors.
The Amenity Pouch is made in a similar way and fits all your toiletry, ready to be placed on the sink or bathtub. It also comes with another transparent pouch so that you can even bring it onboard.
Fuwamoko Ring Pillow – Perfect for Any Sleep Position
A good neck pillow can make all the difference between a nice flight and a horrible one. This Ring Pillow allows you to bend and twist it in all kinds of shapes, perfectly adapting to whatever sleep position works for you! This is a great companion not only for traveling, but also for our couch at home, at the office, or in your car. It’s also perfectly okay to wash it by hand, so it’ll always stay fresh and nice.
Souvenir Bag 27 – Super Secure Packable Bag!
Packable bags are indispensable if you want to save room in your luggage. They come in various shapes and forms, but among all of the Tokyu Hands recommends the Souvenir Bag 27. Processed with Teflon, it boasts high water-repelling qualities and the handles can be lowered to shoulder height, featuring extra cushioning. Extra pockets on the outside offer plenty of room and the YKK fastener promises additional safety. Having one of those in your luggage is always a good idea!
Suitcase Belt: Strap Extra Bags and Jackets to Your Suitcase!
Putting bags and jackets on top of your suitcase is standard for every traveler. This handy belt will make sure that these things stay in place and don’t fall off every time you move around!
Wash Everywhere Pack: Clean Shirts and Undies Everywhere You Go!
This product is a long-time favorite because it is so simple and compact. It’s basically a bag that comes with an environmentally friendly laundry detergent. You open the bag at the top and put in said detergent before filling it with whatever you want to wash and water. Close the top and shake it well, then simply let it soak for 15 minutes. Now open the bottom end and drain the water. Repeat the process by filling in water from the top, rinse, and drain from the bottom. Leave the bottom open and roll the laundry bag up to squeeze excess water – all done!
Footrest Swing – Comfy Feet All Around!
A long flight, train or bus ride will inevitably cause your feet to swell and feel uncomfortably heavy. To combat this, there are a variety of convenient goods for on the go and the footrest swing is one of them. It can be affixed to the table of the seat in front of you and, of course, the height is customizable as well. Then it’s time to take your shoes off and place your heels in between the belt and the footrest – the stability and comfort is wonderful!
