The hot Japanese summer is best spent in a scenic beer garden! There’s nothing better than kicking back with a cold beer and delicious food in an open space, surrounded by green or overlooking Tokyo.
The classic image of a beer garden is that of a big frosty pint of beer with rustic snacks. In Tokyo, however, beer gardens are evolving to a whole new level and appear in all sorts of shapes and with plenty of unique personality. Whether you prefer the classic style or are looking for a fancier place where champagne and cocktails are served, Tokyo’s beer gardens have got you covered! They’re oases of relaxation for everyone, loved by both locals and tourists looking to make the most out of the summer heat.
With the abundance of beer gardens available, it is easy to lose your head – which one has the best food, which one has the best view? Today, we’re showing you our favorite beer gardens, focusing on those operated by department stores and other large commercial facilities. There’s something here for every mood and occasion!
Tokyu Rooftop Premium Beer Garden: Specialty Dishes High Above Tokyo!
You’ll find Tokyu Department Store’s main location in an area often called “Shibuya's Backside.” It’s a neighborhood famous for being stylish and fashion-forward while maintaining a laid-back atmosphere, so it’s the perfect location for a summer beer garden! The Premium Beer Garden is on top of the department store’s roof, with a menu featuring specialty dishes by Restaurant Demi on Tokyo’s 8th floor. They’re refined and delicious, definitely fancier than what you’d expect from a beer garden! Additionally, the menu is enriched with “Shibuya honey” harvested right on the roof, plus vegetables from Kamakura!
The table seats are wonderfully spacious, inviting to relax in a laid-back environment. Enjoy a rich drink selection with excellent food amidst lush greenery that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Aozora Craft Beer Garden is nestled on the rooftop of the 8th floor and will pamper you with as much craft beer as you want, alongside delicious barbecue. If you’re into craft beer, this is definitely the best choice.
Of course, the food doesn’t fall behind either. Craft beer from all around the world, including Germany and the Czech Republic, is served alongside plenty of veggies, ribs, pork belly, and chicken to put on the grill!
