Haneda Airport is relatively compact and easy to navigate. With access to central Tokyo in under one hour, it’s not hard to see why the number of travelers arriving to Haneda is steadily increasing.

1) Buy your rail tickets as soon as you land

After you’ve cleared immigration, claim your luggage and head to the Arrivals Lobby. Immediately on your right is the Tourist Information Center, where you'll be able to purchase the Tokyo Subway Ticket that’s available exclusively for foreign visitors. The ticket gives you unlimited rides on the Toei Subway and Tokyo Metro.

If you have a Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order head to the Tourist Information Center on the far left.

Show your passport and you’ll be able buy the Tokyo Subway Ticket, which gives you unlimited rides in a designated period of times.

48 hours: 1200 yen
72 hours: 1500 yen

JR EAST Travel Service Center

Go here to exchange your Japan Rail Pass or to buy a Tokyo Wide Pass, Suica IC card or tickets for JR trains.

Beat the crowds at major stations like Shinjuku and Tokyo by purchasing your tickets here. If you won’t be using a Japan Rail Pass, it’s also a good idea to purchase and charge a Suica card if you know you will be using JR lines on your trip.

2) Getting to Central Tokyo

There are plenty of ways for you to get to your Tokyo destination from Haneda Airport. Whether it be taxi, train or bus, be sure to confirm your final destination and the type of pass or ticket needed.

The Transport Information board is a quick reference guide to major cities within and around Tokyo. Simply find your final destination and the board will tell you exactly what buses and trains to ride, how long it will take and how much it will cost you.

Going By Bus

A look at major bus routes from Haneda Airport. Buses stop along the way so be sure to ask a ticket agent if you do not see your destination listed.

If you’re staying at a hotel in Tokyo, you may be able get to your destination without transferring. Buses are also a great option if you have a lot of luggage.

Bus tickets are available at the ticket counter to the right of the arrival gate. You may also buy tickets on the 1st Floor.

Walk past the train boarding area and information kiosks marked by a large question mark (“?”) to get to the bus stops.

Tokyo and Beyond by Train
Right in front of you as you enter the arrival lobby is an Information kiosk marked by a question mark. To the far right is the where you can take the Keikyu Line; go to the left and you can take the Tokyo Monorail.

Subway Day Passes and More
If you’re ready to explore Tokyo as soon as you arrive, purchase a ticket to the center of Tokyo for 410 yen. The Keikyu Line has direct access to Shinagawa in only 11 minutes.

Combine the 410 yen ticket with a 24 hour Tokyo Metro and Toei train pass for 1200 yen. Considering that a single ride on the Tokyo Metro is 170 yen and a single ride on the Toei Lines is 180, you’ll save lots when getting around Tokyo.

Keep in mind that this pass valid only on the Toei and Tokyo Metro lines. In this case, considering picking up a rechargeable PASMO card as well.

Keikyu Line ticket booths and boarding area. As soon as you exit the ticket gate, you’ve already reached the platform.  If you’re heading to Yokohama and beyond or are taking the express train heading to Shinagawa, beware. Both trains depart from the same platform so check carefully before you board.

Use the Tokyo Monorail to Reach Tokyo Station, Hamamatsucho Station or Shin Urayasu
The ticket machines and boarding area for Tokyo Monorail are to the left as you exit the arrival lobby. The monorail is a wonderful way to see the waters of Tokyo Bay as well as the city’s iconic sites. A ticket to Hamamatsucho is 490 yen for a scenic 13 minute train ride.

Mailing Letters and Postcards From Japan

There’s no post office inside Haneda Airport but you can make use of these post boxes. Let your loved ones know with a postcard that you've arrived in Japan. You can also mail gifts and souvenirs before leaving to free up space in your suitcase. As long as your package fits in the box, you’re good to go.

Buy your stamps on the 3rd Floor Departure Lobby at luggage storage or on the 1st Floor at Air Lawson.

The post boxes are located in the middle of the 3rd floor next to the escalator near the Information Desk.

(A postcard postage stamp for all international mail is 70 yen. Letters up to 25 grams are 90 yen; letters up to 50 yen are 160 yen. All prices are listed as a reference only.)

The Hands-Free Approach to Luggage
ANA Sky Biru Service/JAL ABC

If you’d rather send your heavy luggage directly to your hotel rather than carry it around, simply head to the service counters operated by ANA and JAL. When you exit the arrival gate head to your immediate right.

Both ANA and JAL offer similar rates, so there’s no need to worry about cost. But, if you have an ANA or JAL you can earn miles.

Dimensions under 169 cm and under 25 kg: 2360 yen

Same-day delivery within the Kanto region for luggage dropped off by 11 a.m. Alternatively, pay an additional 300 yen for same day delivery to Tokyo and Kanagawa on luggage dropped off by 3 p.m.

You can also schedule a pickup to have your luggage delivered to Haneda.

Getting connected: Wi-Fi and SIM Cards
While you’ll have access to free Wi-Fi inside the airport, step outside and you’re disconnected from the outside world. Even worse, there are very few hotspots between Haneda and the center of Tokyo. Visitors in groups can get a Wi-Fi router and share among friends. Solo travels should get a SIM card. Be sure to choose the right option for your travel plans.

Softbank Global Rental

There are two Softbank Global Rental locations in Haneda Airport. One location is in the arrival lobby and the other on the departure lobby. The above photo is of the location in the arrival lobby.

Get a prepaid 1 GB SIM card valid for 7 days for 4500 yen. A 2 GB SIM card valid for 30 days costs 6000 yen.

XCom Global

The red window is for pick up; the blue window is for same day signups. After business hours, return your router by placing it in the return box located on the right side underneath on the counter.

Get a Wi-Fi router for 780 yen per day. You’ll get a discount if you sign up for more than 8 days.
