Inside UNIQLO Yodobashi Akiba: Why Travelers Love Akihabara's Newest and Largest UNIQLO Store
- Written by: Ran Tanaka
On April 14, 2023, UNIQLO Yodobashi Akiba made its debut on the 7th floor of Yodobashi Camera, right in front of Akihabara Station. Located in Akihabara, one of Japan's most popular electronics districts and a game, anime, and idol hot spot, this newest UNIQLO branch offers some of the latest and greatest products and services, including some you'll only find in Akihabara.
New UNIQLO in Yodobashi Camera: Just A Stone's Throw from Akihabara Station!
Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Akiba is a multi-level building located just a short stroll from Akihabara Station's Showadori or Chuo Exit.
Here you'll find some of the latest in consumer electronics and other tech, as well as trendy fashion boutiques on the 7th floor. It is also the largest UNIQLO store ever opened in the Akihabara area!
Manga Motifs and Digital Goods: Akihabara-Themed Interior Design
UNIQLO Yodobashi Akiba features an interior design that captures the unique cultural flair of Akihabara. The first thing guests will notice are the eye-catching POP displays resembling comic book speech bubbles, standing right by the entrance to greet you!
Akihabara is the only place in Japan where mannequins dressed as manga characters guide customers through the store.
Take a closer look at the shop's mannequins, and you'll notice they're sporting headphones and phone cases! It's a fun collaboration with the products available at Yodobashi Camera, offering a stylish mix of fashion and digital tech. It's a one-of-a-kind coordination you'll only find in one of Japan's biggest electric towns!
You'll find standalone digital products on display right next to the mannequins. And if you're curious about any of these gadgets, follow the floor guides and head right over to Yodobashi Camera once you've finished your UNIQLO shopping.
Design Custom Goods with Exclusive Akihabara UTme! Stamps
UTme! is a service that lets you design original T-shirts and tote bags with decorative stamps. And at this shop's permanent installation, you'll find a variety of creative stamps, exclusive to Akihabara!
These one-of-a-kind UTme! stamps are designed by companies associated with Akihabara, featuring Yodobashi Camera's mascot, Yodobashi-kun, Tirol Chocolate, headquartered in Akihabara, and Soul Nations, the adult-oriented label from plastic model manufacturer, BANDAI SPIRITS.
Just select your bag or garment on the tablet, and place you favorite stamps wherever you like! The entire process takes just a little over an hour, so feel free to continue shopping at Yodobashi Camera or in the Akihabara area while you wait!
Short on time? Ready-made UTme! graphic short-sleeve tees are also available! Prices start at 1,990 yen (tax included).
2023 UT Collection: A Rich Lineup of Exciting Anime and Game Collabs
Don't miss out on UNIQLO's "UT Collection" - a series of trendy t-shirts featuring collaborations with various artists and characters. The 2023 collection will see plenty of collaborations with popular manga and video games, all of which can be found right here at UNIQLO Yodobashi Akiba.
The hottest UT for spring/summer 2023 is based on the hit manga, 'Case Closed' (or 'Detective Conan'). These tees feature prints of rare cuts and artwork, specially selected from the original story itself.
Visitors will also love the displays of figurines, manga, and DVDs that are currently available in-store and online at Yodobashi Camera (Yodobashi.com). The wide array of related clothing and merch just might tempt you to start your own collection!
You'll also find 'Attack on Titan' UTs, based on the popular anime series that will be airing the second part of its finale in fall 2023. There's also a shop-exclusive Titan pop-up on display, with a wall so surreal, you won't want to miss it!
Anime fans will love seeing familiar references, such as the Survey Corps' salute!
Also available are UTs based on the internationally popular Nintendo Switch game, 'Splatoon 3'. Browse for your favorite design while watching battle scenes unfold on the giant monitor before you!
The Splatoon 3 UTs are also available in kids' sizes. Children's pants are also available (990 yen, including tax), so mom and dad can join in on the fun, coordinating matching Splatoon-themed outfits for the entire family!
This Tourist-Friendly Lineup Features Seasonal Items and a Wide Range of Sizes!
UNIQLO Yodobashi Akiba's assortment of unique Akihabara goods make it popular with international tourists. Their most distinctive feature is the availability of products opposite in season to that of Japan.
In other words, when it's spring and summer in Japan, you'll still be able to pick up fall and winter items! Customers can find functional winter innerwear, such as HEATTECH and Ultra Light Down, during the warmer months, and comfy, quick-drying innerwear like AIRISM during fall and winter.
It's a collection of products that caters to the needs of visitors from a number of countries with differing climates.
Another feature of this location is its wider variety of available sizes as compared to other stores. Customers will be happy to know that sizes previously limited to online purchase, such 4XL men's tops and 2XL women's bottoms, are available here on-site.
The shop also offers a children's line, the first of its kind in the Akihabara area! These cute, colorful clothing items make perfect souvenirs for your family and friends' little ones!
