By Train + Local Bus
  • From Tokyo Station, Shinjuku Station, or other stations in central Tokyo, take the Tokaido Shinkansen, JR Tokaido Line, or Odakyu Line to Odawara Station (about 35–90 minutes).

    From Odawara Station East Exit, take the Izu Hakone Bus from bus stop 5 to Hakone-en (about 65 minutes).

    Then, it's a 5-minute walk from Hakone-en.
  • From Shinjuku Station, take the Odakyu Romancecar to Hakone Yumoto Station (about 85 minutes).

    From Hakone Yumoto Station, take the Izu Hakone Bus from bus stop 1 to Hakone-en (about 50 minutes).

    It's a 5-minute walk from there.
Free Shuttle Bus for Hotel Guests
  • A free shuttle bus is available for hotel guests from the west exit of Odawara Station. The shuttle departs three times a day at 11:45 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:10 PM, taking about 50 minutes to reach The Prince Hakone Ashinoko or the Ryuguden Annex.

    Reservation is required in advance (Online reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance, and the cutoff is 12:00 PM, two days before check-in).

  • From Haneda Airport, take the Odakyu Highway Bus directly to Hakone Togendai (about 160–175 minutes).

    From there, take a 15-minute taxi ride to the hotel.

After descending, I had lunch at the 'Spectacular Day-Use Onsen Ryuguden Honkan.'

Inside this nationally designated tangible cultural property, you can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients. I tried the 'Fujinokuni Pork Tonkatsu Set' (3,300 yen). The crispy breading encased tender pork, packed with savory flavors and a sweet richness from the fat. It was served with four different condiments, allowing for delightful variations in taste.

Known as the 'Phantom Hot Spring,' Takogawa Onsen was discovered in 1987 after years of local belief that no hot springs could be found at the base of Mt. Komagatake.
