KINTOKI NO AMATARO: Masterfully Made Anko, Special Beans and Sticky Dough

KINTOKI NO AMATARO: Masterfully Made Anko, Special Beans and Sticky Dough

Kintoki no Amataro, a beloved fixture on Naritasan-Omotesando, is the renowned branch of the Amataro Yaki shop. This long-standing establishment, thriving for nearly 70 years, crafts treats akin to traditional imagawa-yaki and oban-yaki, but with a distinctive process and unique ingredients exclusive to their recipe.

The menu features two delightful options: Shiro-an and Adzuki-an.

Crafted from adzuki and otebo beans sourced from the outskirts of Obihiro City and Kita-Memurocho, Hokkaido, the anko paste is the essence of tradition. Each batch is meticulously handmade daily, without any machines, with the entire process taking up to seven hours to perfect.

The dough, naturally, is crafted by hand. Carefully chosen ingredients are slowly baked on an iron plate. You can observe the baking process at the shop’s front, where the sweet aroma fills the air, tempting your appetite even further.

Freshly baked to perfection, it’s served in paper for easy eating on the go. Amataro-yaki is a favorite among both tourists and locals. During our visit, we witnessed a lively crowd eagerly purchasing their take-out treats.

In the photo, Adzuki-an is on the left, with Shiro-an on the right. Freshly baked, they offer a crisp outer skin and a soft, delightful interior. Both are sweet, delicious, and perfect for recharging after a day of walking.

At Kintoki no Amataro, a friendly staff member always welcomes you. Chatting with the team is a pleasure, as some speak foreign languages too.
