The beloved Mister Donuts’ collaboration with Pokémon is back in Japan by popular demand for its seventh year, and with it comes a fun lineup of limited-time doughnuts and exclusive Pokémon-themed goods! Every year, fans look forward to the new additions at “Misudo” (what the locals call the store) and for 2024, the concept is called “Tobidase,” meaning “pop out!” This year’s showstopper is the Diglett-inspired “Pon de Digda” doughnut, appearing to pop out from a doughnut hole.

She shares what she thought of them throughout the article. Let’s have a look at this year’s line-up, complete with flavor notes, designs, prices, and where to grab these delicious creations before they disappear!

1. Pikachu Doughnut

No Pokémon line-up is complete without our yellow friend! A returning favorite, the Pikachu Doughnut delights fans with its soft yeast dough filled with whipped cream, coated in yellow caramel-flavored custard chocolate for a sweet, creamy bite. Pikachu’s eyes and cheeks are crafted with chocolate, giving it a charming face.

Price: Takeout - 313 yen, Eat-in - 319 yen (both prices include tax)

Johanna’s Comment:

With the creaminess of the coating and nice, slight crunch to the chocolate ears, this Pikachu doughnut has just the right mix of texture, flavor and cuteness! This is a good-sized doughnut, and if I wasn’t this excited to try out the whole lineup I probably would have been satisfied with only one Pikachu sweet! They’re almost too cute to eat though…

2. Pon de Digda (NEW)

This year's newcomer and showstopper, the Pon de Digda doughnut, is inspired by Diglett, with a creative take on its signature look of peeking up from the ground. The doughnut uses Pon de Ring dough topped with custard cream and chocolate crunch, while a whipped cream-filled puff pastry coated in caramel-flavored chocolate represents Diglett itself, peeking out of the hole.

Johanna’s Comment:

I was really excited about this year's newcomer, as the Pon de Ring style doughnut is my favorite and go-to in the regular “Misudo” lineup! When digging in (no pun intended), I could almost hear my mom’s voice somewhere in the distance telling me to “not play with my food,” but this creative sweet just invites you to have Diglett skyrocket out of the doughnut before taking your first bite. A must-try this year!

3. Monster Ball Ring

This Poké Ball (called Monster Ball in Japanese) inspired doughnut features fluffy à choux pastry topped with white chocolate and strawberry sugar, capturing the iconic design in edible form.

Price: Takeout - 248 yen, Eat-in - 253 yen (both prices include tax)

Johanna’s Comment:

This ended up being my favorite out of this year's lineup. It’s all in the crunch! The strawberry sugar coating gives this doughnut a nice texture, quite original in this collection. Apart from the sugar coating, it is a quite simple and light dessert, so I would recommend pairing this with another member from the lineup to really feel satisfied!

4. Peek-a-Boo Pikachu Custard Chocolate & Peek-a-Boo Dugtrio Caramel Chocolate

The first doughnut is designed to look like Pikachu peeking out from the doughnut hole, and uses a fluffy choux dough filled with whipped and custard cream. It’s coated in caramel-custard-flavored chocolate and comes in a unique pouch featuring Pikachu popping out.

Dugtrio fans can enjoy the second one, a caramel-flavored chocolate doughnut filled with whipped and custard cream. Like the Pikachu version, it also comes in a cute, themed pouch.

Johanna’s Comment:

If you are into sweet desserts - like, really, really sweet ones - these are the ones for you! I would call these fairly conservative doughnuts, with a flavored coating and creamy filling. The packaging seems to be the “main event” for these two, so make sure to take some pictures before you start eating!

5. Pon de Wreaths (Holiday Edition)

To bring festive cheer, Mister Donuts offers holiday-themed “Pon de Wreath” doughnuts in two variations: one chocolate-coated and one caramel-flavored, both with colorful sugar toppings for extra sweetness.

The Pon de Ring-type doughnuts have this amazing chewiness to them, and while I didn’t get to try either of the Pon de Wreaths this time, combined with the crunch of the sprinkles, I’m sure they are great!

Exclusive Pokémon-Themed Collectibles!

This year's collaboration brings fans an exclusive “Goods Set” with adorable Pokémon-inspired merchandise to pair with their doughnuts. Each set is carefully designed for young and old Pokémon enthusiasts, offering unique items that make for wonderful souvenirs. Here’s a look at what’s included.
