Chofu, where this year’s Rugby World Cup will be held, is located in Tokyo with convenient access to different parts of the city. Though situated right near the city center, there are historical buildings such as Jindaiji Temple, plenty of nature, and a great spot for sightseeing.
Here are five delicious gourmet spots in Chofu that you can stop either on game day, or any other time you please. Seafood, Western food, bars, and more, please feel free to refer to this guide for lunch, dinner, or drinks.
1. Seafood: Enjoy Fresh-from-the-Market Seafood at Uoine
This delicious seafood izakaya is a quick 2 minute walk from Tokyo Stadium's nearest station, Tobitakyu Station. The shopkeeper brings in a variety of seafood fresh from the market every day, all carefully selected and made available for purchase at a reasonable price.
One of the most popular lunchtime meals is the Jo-Uoine Set (¥1800, tax not included), a set of fresh sashimi, vegetable, and seafood tempura. The star of this sashimi dish is the Toro Tuna, as well as other seasonal fish.
A hearty serving of tempura is accompanied by small dishes such as chawanmushi and other sides, making it a dish sure to please everyone.
A popular dinnertime item is the “Unaju,” a dish made with fresh Kagoshima eel. The deliciously fatty eel is served in plump, mouth-watering portions so large, it barely fits into the box. Because of its size, it is a great meal choice to split between two while enjoying a couple of drinks.
