Ever dream of being a pilot? Now you can get your head in the clouds at Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu! In celebrating its 15th anniversary at Tokyo's Haneda Airport, from July 18 you can get the chance to stay in the 'Superior Cockpit Room' - complete with a Boeing 737-800 flight simulator!
Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu: Celebrating 15 Years at Tokyo's Haneda Airport
Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu opened on December 1, 2004 as a hotel directly connected to Haneda Airport's Terminal 2 (for domestic flights), and will celebrate its 15th anniversary in December 2019.
In 2007, the hotel's 'Premier Flyers Room' was created around the luxurious concept of first class. It included actual first class seating, and its rooms faced Haneda Airport's runway - drawing wide acclaim from planespotters and future pilots alike.
One-upping itself, the new 'Superior Cockpit Room' was born from a bid to please all airplane aficionados: it includes a Boeing 737-800 flight simulator.
Flight Simulator in a Hotel Room?! Two Plans Available
Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu is offering two plans around the flight simulator.
Plan 1: Flight Simulator Experience
For people who just want to enjoy the experience of flying without actually staying at the hotel, this is for you. Here, under the guidance of an instructor who's familiar with the equipment, you get to enjoy the chance of a lifetime: to pilot the sim from Haneda Airport to Itami Airport, complete with takeoff and landing.
From July 18, 2019 this 90-minute experience will cost 30,000 yen in advance and reservations should be made within 5 days you wish to have your 'flight.' Two time slots are available daily, from 12pm to 1:30pm and from 2:30pm to 4pm.
Note that this plan is only for the flight simulator and does not include actual stay in the room. The piloting experience is for 1 person, however up to 2 people may be in the cockpit. Precision equipment is used in the simulator; in the unlikely event that a problem occurs and the experience is to be cancelled, payments will be refunded. Additional details are on the hotel's website.
Plan 2: 'Cockpit Room Experience Plan'
Under this plan for 2 people, you get the whole room to yourself! Although the in-room flight simulator is not available for piloting without an instructor, you will be able to see day and nighttime scenery flowing by as the autopilot takes off and lands from Haneda. Rates are from 25,300 yen (taxes and service charges included; Tokyo accommodation tax excluded).
Note that there is only one Superior-type room and that the flight simulator will be covered with a clear acrylic panel. Also, you won't be able to use the simulator or touch the controls without guidance staff present. Additional details are on the hotel's website.
For reservations and other information, see the official website at https://www.tokyuhotels.co.jp/haneda-e/index.html.
No doubt, this is a dream come true for so many would-be pilots and is sure to be a popular destination for travelers!
