Japan has the curious tradition of eating cake on Christmas Eve or Day, so the image of a “Japanese Christmas” is strongly tied to delicious sweets. If you’re spending the holiday season in Tokyo, why not try this curious custom for yourself? Instead of lining up at one of the many famous bakeries and pastry shops, spend a leisurely Christmas Cake all-you-can-eat buffet! We’ve found Tokyo’s five best restaurants that’ll tickle your taste buds with wintery sweet creations ‘til you drop!
[Shibuya] 1. Mouffetard de Paris: Heavenly Sweets Created by a Veteran Patissier
Mouffetard de Paris is a café and bakery in Tokyo’s fancy Shibuya, creating Western-style cakes and desserts since more than 30 years. The veterans of pastries and sweets will take your taste buds to cloud nine with seasonally themed all-you-can-eat buffets that are so popular, people tend to queue up for them! Next to all kinds of cakes and desserts imaginable, savory dishes such as omelet rice and sandwiches provide for a nice change of flavors once you’ve saturated that cake craving. With a buffet selection that changes every month, you’ll be surprised with new creations every time you visit! Also, keep your eyes peeled for limited-time menus!
The all-you-can-eat offer lasts for 90 minutes on weekdays and 70 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, comes with free drinks and is available for 1,890 yen per person (tax included). If you want to treat yourself to artistically made cakes and desserts, this is the place to go!

Enjoy French toast with all-you-can-eat toppings during lunch and beef steak that’s been carefully grilled for 30 minutes for dinner! We recommend aiming for the 11:00 a.m. buffet on weekdays. With pancakes, quiches, soups, and more, it makes for a wonderful brunch that’ll give you all the energy you need for extensive sightseeing! Ikebukuro is a shopping and amusement paradise, so it’s natural that after a long day of excitement, you’ll want to rest your legs and treat yourself to great food. Head over to Sunshine City Prince Hotel’s restaurant called Chef’s Palette. It was renewed in 2016 and its mega-popular sweets buffet can now be enjoyed both at lunch and for dinner.
The highlight of Chef’s Palette undoubtedly are the many demonstrations by the chefs. There’s the “Ice Cook,” a frozen plate on which fantastic ice cream creations are prepared, as well as the chocolate fountain that is used to beautifully decorate fruits and marshmallows.
