This is an inn located at the foot of the mountain where the ruins of Iwamura Castle, selected as one of Japan's 100 famous castles and one of the three great mountain castles, are situated. The exterior reflects the atmosphere of a Ninomaru (second bailey).The high atrium lobby designed in the style of gassho-zukuri (traditional Japanese architecture), along with the dining hall's large space featuring thick beams, creates a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era.

Funaya Ryokan (currently known as 'Funaya') opened in the Dogo area during the Kanei era of the Edo period (around 1627). For over 390 years since then, it has been cherished as a lodging for countless travelers. While valuing tradition and maintaining its prestige, it also actively incorporates new and good elements to provide hospitality to its guests. This is the spirit of Funaya. It has also been patronized by many notable figures, such as Natsume Soseki, Masaoka Shiki, and Eiichi Shibusawa.
