Spring, when the trees sprout fresh green leaves; summer, when there's no steam and the scenery is fully visible; autumn, when the leaves turn red, yellow, and orange; winter, when everything is covered in a blanket of snow. A solitary inn's hot spring nestled amidst nature that shows various expressions across the four seasons. Please enjoy our carefully crafted seasonal cuisine and our proud hot springs to your heart's content.
A ryokan nestled in the serene village of Kurobe's Shimizu, Kiji Onsen Tanakaya. It is said that when Uesugi Kenshin became unable to walk due to beriberi, he cured his illness with the miraculous spring water that wells up in Kiji, as guided by the deity of Niihari Shrine. Our inn, sourced from that miraculous spring, has been operating as a small ryokan for therapeutic baths in Kiji, along the coast of Kurobe, since 1911. The approximately 5,000-tsubo garden, carefully nurtured by successive generations, surrounds the ryokan, allowing guests to fully enjoy the seasonal delicacies unique to Toyama and Kurobe cultivated by the beautiful water, and to soak in the hot springs while reflecting on its 110-year history. Though it is a modest, quiet, and small ryokan, we await your visit with heartfelt hospitality.
