Description
This museum is a 10-minute walk from both the Ueno Park Exit of JR Ueno Station and Nezu Station on the Chiyoda Subway Line. A Taito-ku Circulation Bus is also available to visit the University Art Museum-Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. The museum was established by taking an advantage of its position at an art university. The collection consists of about 29,000 pieces including 22 National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, making it one of the greatest collections in Japan. It includes many works created by top artists who graduated from the university and those are a very important collection on learning about Japanese modern art history. Some of the collections are open to public at the Geidai Collection exhibition which is held once or twice a year. There are also various regularly displays. The main building has a cafeteria, souvenir shop, and store selling painting supplies. Besides the main building, there are Chinretsukan Gallery and Masaki Memorial Gallery are open to the public during exhibitions (including the main building, all of them will be closed except for the period of exhibitions). Opening hours and admission charges vary depending on the exhibition, so please check the official English website before visiting.
