Description
The museum opened in 1966 on the 9th floor of the Teigeki Building near the outer moat of the Imperial Palace. The foundation of the collection is the art works collected over a period of more than 70 years by Sazo Idemitsu, a businessman and the founder of Idemitsu Kosan. The collection consists mainly of Japanese and Chinese works and are exhibited five to six times a year. It has maintained a Japanese-style atmosphere since its opening, allowing visitors to appreciate paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, and other works of art in a relaxed atmosphere. It also displays oil paintings by French artist Georges Rouault and ceramics excavated from Asian countries and the Middle East. Although it does not have a permanent exhibition, it has long been known as a museum where visitors can enjoy a wide range of thematic exhibitions. Access: 5-minute walk from the International Forum Exit of JR Yurakucho Station, 3-minute walk from Yurakucho Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line or Hibiya Station Exit B3 on the Toei Mita Line.
