Description
The museum opened in 1952 as Japan's first national art museum, and it is one of the leading museums, with a total exhibition space of 4,500 square meters. In its owned collection exhibition, it displays 200 artworks in a wide range of genres, such as oil paintings, Japanese-style paintings, and sculptures. It houses many pieces of designated Important Cultural Properties and displays artworks from Japan's modern artists, such as Shunso Hishida, Gyokudo Kawai, and Kagaku Murakami. L’art et Mikuni, a French-Italian restaurant was opened when the museum was renovated in 2012. The cuisine is created in collaboration with each exhibition. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the greens of the Imperial Palace from “A room with a view,” the rooftop terrace or find original artistic goods at the museum shop. It is a three-minute walk from the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, Takebashi Station Exit 1b. It is located within the Kitanomaru Park close to the Imperial Palace.
