Description
Mitadai Park is an open-air archaeological park that exhibits a reconstructed pit-house and cross-section of a shell layer based on the excavations from nearby Isarago Kaizuka shell mound. The biggest draw here is a reconstructed pit-house of the latter-Jomon period — about 4,000 years ago. You can learn how pre-historic Tokyoites lived by entering the dwelling. A shell-layer in the park was made by joining densely accumulated parts torn from the ground with adhesives. The base of an ancient dwelling, reconstructed from the nearby ruins, gives further clues on the lives of ancient inhabitants. Part of the park is set aside as a biotope, a grassy area full of insects such as grasshoppers and praying mantises, which is open to public only on Sundays from March to November. A seven-minute walk from Sengakuji Station on the Toei Asakusa Line; turn left at Isarago Instersection, go along Hijirizaka Slope and you will find the park.
