The Nonbei Yokocho

のんべい横丁

Description

Just minutes from the Shibuya scramble crossing is Nonbei Yokocho (Drinkers Alley), where you can enjoy, Showa Retro, the classic style that brings back memories of the 60's and 70's. Once you step into the alley you will be welcomed by a big ”Nonbei Yokocho” sign and red paper lanterns. With about 40 charming izakayas, you will feel as if you have travelled back in time. Many of the shops are brimming with individuality, such as the popular yakitori (skewered chicken) bars, oden (Japanese stew) bars and chic shot bars. In recent years it has become popular among a wide range of people, including women and youngsters, as a place that retains its nostalgic atmosphere yet offers reasonable prices to stop by casually amidst the redevelopments of Shibuya. It is a short walk from the Hachiko exit of JR Shibuya station and a three-minutes walk from Shibuya station on the subways.
